Police in Nasarawa State have apprehended Salisu Buhari, an escaped inmate of the Kuje Correctional Centre who fled during the July 2022 jailbreak.
He was arrested alongside his friend, Zubairu Ali, for allegedly snatching a motorcycle in the Nasarawa Local Government Area.
In a statement signed by Ramhan Nansel, the police public relations officer, it was revealed that the suspects were responsible for most motorcycle snatching and theft in Nasarawa LGA and its environs.
The arrest of the suspects was made by police operatives attached to Nassarawa Division on April 6, 2023, around 10:00 p.m., News About Nigeria reports.
Upon interrogation, Salisu Buhari confessed to escaping from Kuje Correctional Centre during the jailbreak and admitted to being involved in criminal activities with his friend.
The duo will be thoroughly investigated by the state Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia, following the order given by the state Commissioner of Police, Maiyaki Muhammed-Baba.
It would be recalled that on July 9, 2022, the state command recaptured one of the escaped inmates, Hassan Hassan.
However, many other inmates are still at large, and the authorities have been making efforts to re-arrest them.
The jailbreak in Kuje Correctional Centre on July 9, 2022, was a coordinated attack by Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) that led to the escape of over 800 inmates.
