Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, has appointed a new chief of staff, Mr. Chukwuemeka Enwereji, barely two months to the end of his tenure.

The appointment was announced in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Onyebuchi Ememanka, News About Nigeria reports.

Enwereji, who takes over from Sir Okey Ahiwe, will coordinate the activities of the Office of the Governor and ensure seamless exit formalities for the administration.

Ahiwe resigned his position to contest the March 11 governorship election in the state under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Mr. Enwereji is a legal practitioner with a Bachelor of Laws degree from Abia State University and a Master of Laws degree from the University of Lagos.

He is expected to bring his wealth of experience to bear in his new position.

The appointment of a new chief of staff is expected to strengthen the administrative machinery of the government as it winds down its activities in the coming months.

The governor’s decision to appoint a new chief of staff has been welcomed by stakeholders in the state, who have expressed confidence in Enwereji’s ability to perform his duties creditably.

Okezie Ikpeazu who has governed Abia for eight years will handover on May 29, 2023 to the new governor, Alex Otti.

The e LP candidate, polled a total of 172,386 votes to defeat his closest rival and candidate of the PDP, Mr Ahiwe, who garnered a total of 88,174 votes to come a distant second.
