Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike has expressed his disappointment and disapproval of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar, for hosting a town hall meeting in Abuja instead of Rivers State. The Governor accused Atiku of demarketing the State and not deserving the votes of Rivers people.

Wike made the remarks while kicking off the reconstruction and dualisation of Emohua Road to Abalama/Tema Junction in Emohua Local Government Area of the State. He insisted that Rivers electorate would cast their votes on Saturday for the candidate committed to the unity of Nigeria and trusted to be a unifier.

The Governor described the people summoned and addressed by Atiku in Abuja over the weekend as not true Rivers citizens, saying that they should return home and be addressed by the presidential candidate. He found it unacceptable for anyone seeking votes from the state to summon its people for a meeting outside of the State, labeling it an insult to Rivers and its people, News About Nigeria reports.

Wike emphasized that if the PDP presidential candidate could not come to Rivers State and address the people because he had labelled the place as unsafe, it would be morally wrong to seek votes from the state. He challenged Rivers people to behave like true Rivers people and not be bought or summoned outside the state, insisting that no amount of blackmail or intimidation could change their position.

The Governor declared that Rivers people were prepared for the Saturday’s election and would teach those opposed to the stance of the state for equity, fairness, and justice that they were the real owners of the state. He emphasized that Rivers people would vote for the candidate interested in Nigeria moving forward and who had the welfare of the state at heart.
