Anthony Joshua, the former two-time unified heavyweight champion, is preparing for his comeback fight against Jermaine Franklin at the 02 Arena in London on April 1.
To help him get his career back on track, Joshua has enlisted the help of world-renowned trainer Derrick James. However, despite criticism from some who charge him to be more aggressive in the ring, James advises that Joshua does not need more aggression to succeed.
In James’ view, being a bull does not always lead to stellar results. Instead, Joshua should strive to be the best version of himself, using his natural talent and intelligence to choose the right tactics to be successful.
James has helped mould some of the boxing world’s most recognisable stars, including unified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. and undisputed junior middleweight kingpin Jermell Charlo, both of whom are aggressive by nature.
If Joshua can get back in the win column against Franklin, he can look forward to potential fights with Tyson Fury, Deontay Wilder, or even former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou. With James’ guidance, Joshua’s brawn and brains could lead to another victorious run.
Meanwhile, despite Anthony Joshua’s big ambitions of becoming a three-time heavyweight champion and undisputed ruler of the division, he recognizes the importance of having time to live and have fun outside of boxing.
As an athlete, there’s always something on the back of his mind, whether it’s sleep, nutrition, or hydration. Joshua wants to be young enough to experience life’s pleasures, but retirement is the unknown, and he wants to continue working towards his career in boxing.
News About Nigeria understands Joshua’s next fight is against Jermaine Franklin in April at The O2 in London. After consecutive defeats to Oleksandr Usyk, Joshua is hoping to get back on the road to world title contention with a must-win showdown.
New head coach Derrick James will be leading his corner for the first time in six-and-a-half years, and Joshua is looking forward to putting on a show and impressing his coach. Franklin has a good style and attitude, and it’s sure to be an exciting fight.
