PDP Holds Reconciliation Meeting In Enugu, Seeks Unity

Daniel Bwala, the Spokesman for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Organisation, has voiced his dissatisfaction with President Bola Tinubu’s purported intention to appoint former governors as ministers.

News About Nigeria understands that in a tweet shared on Tuesday, Bwala claimed that the President’s reported plan indicates a preference for using Special Advisers as quasi-ministers of state instead of granting them the status of Minister of State.

Bwala expressed his concerns regarding this alleged plan, stating that it is commendable because the competence of most special advisers often goes underutilized in their assigned roles.

He further highlighted that these positions are frequently employed for political patronage rather than leveraging the skills and expertise of the individuals in question.

The criticism by Bwala underscores the PDP’s discontent with the reported approach by President Tinubu in selecting his ministerial appointees.

The party believes that former governors, if appointed as ministers, may not adequately serve the nation’s best interests, as their previous roles were primarily centered on administering individual states rather than addressing national concerns.

He wrote: “Why he doesn’t want status of minister of state is because he wants to use the Special Advisers as quasi ministers of state.

“That is commendable to me because most SAs are often not utilized with their competence in those roles.

“The roles are most often than not used for political patronage. HOWEVER, I still have grouse with his insistence on appointing former governors as ministers. In fact, failed former governors.

As discussions surrounding President Tinubu’s alleged plan continue, whether the government will address the concerns raised by Bwala and the PDP remains to be seen.

The PDP is likely to monitor future developments closely and may seize the opportunity to highlight its own proposed strategies for ministerial appointments, emphasizing its commitment to inclusive and competent governance.
