The Benue State Government has approved N30.2 billion for constructing five rural roads across the state, News About Nigeria reports.
The funding was approved by the Benue State Executive Council (SEC) during its meeting on Tuesday at the Government House in Makurdi, the state capital.
According to Tersoo Kula, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Hyacinth Alia, the approved funds represent a 60 percent counterpart contribution for rural road projects in the three senatorial zones.
Local governments in the designated project areas are expected to provide the remaining 40 percent.
The rural roads approved for construction include; Awajir-Oju, Adikpo-Kotiyo-Vandeikya, Ushongo-Har; Igwumale-Agila; and Obagaji-Okokolo-Agagbe roads.
Kula also stated that the approval is part of Governor Alia’s commitment to rebuilding the state and ensuring that the people enjoy the dividends of democracy.
He also noted that the Benue state government will not only stop at the construction of these roads as plans are currently ongoing to extend to other rural roads in the state and to also rehabilitate bad roads.
Similarly, Kula announced that the sum of N567 million was approved as compensation for members of Mbagwa and Mbawa communities of Makurdi local government for their lands earmarked for the federal housing estate project.
He therefore called on the people of the state to continue to support the administration of Governor Alia as he continues to rebuild the state, adding that his top priority is the interest and welfare of all Benue people.
