A new report by Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) has alleged that popular Nigerian crossdresser, Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, better known as Bobrisky, spent just three weeks in prison following his six-month sentencing for naira abuse in April, 2024.

According to the FIJ, sources familiar with the situation claimed Bobrisky was treated with special privileges during her brief stay at Kirikiri Correctional Centre.

A prison official reportedly revealed that the crossdresser was “guarded like a president” until he was discreetly removed from the facility.

“Bobrisky spent only three weeks with us in Kirikiri before being taken elsewhere,” the source said. “It was an arranged situation, and money was involved.”

The report comes after social media personality Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, released a phone conversation on Tuesday in which Bobrisky allegedly confessed to serving her prison term outside of Kirikiri and paying N15 million to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to remove a money laundering charge from her case.

The FIJ report supports these claims, with the insider confirming that Bobrisky paid a huge sum for her special treatment.

“The money she said she paid is true; no lies. She paid it for the VIP treatment and to be quietly moved after three weeks,” the source added.

Despite serving only a fraction of his sentence at Kirikiri, Bobrisky allegedly received preferential treatment during his stay, living in a special cell and being isolated from other inmates.

The source also recounted an incident where a fellow inmate was punished after recording Bobrisky during a video call with his girlfriend.

The inmate was locked up for nearly two months for breaching her privacy.

The prison official concluded by stating that Bobrisky was “quietly taken away” after his short stint at Kirikiri.

Although he was officially released in August, it appears that much of his sentence was served outside the prison.

News About Nigeria reported that Bobrisky was released from prison on August 5 after serving a six-month sentence that was cut short, which began on April 12, for allegedly abusing the naira.

The crossdresser’s legal ordeal resurfaced on Tuesday after social media personality Martin ‘VeryDarkMan’ Otse shared an audio recording in which Bobrisky allegedly admitted to bribing Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) officials with N15 million to drop charges against her.

Bobrisky quickly denied the allegations, branding the recording as “fake” and claiming that she never paid any bribe to the anti-graft agency.

In response, the EFCC summoned both Bobrisky and VeryDarkMan for further investigation, with EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede ordering an immediate probe into the claims.

Rapper Falz also appeared to corroborate part of the allegations, stating in a warning letter that Bobrisky had contacted him to seek financial assistance of N3 million for VIP prison accommodations, which he declined.
