A 15-year-old boy identified as Goodluck Bison, the son of Patrick Bison, an army official, has reportedly attacked and raped a 14-year-old girl, Mercy Vangervihi, in Ebonyi State, leaving her in critical condition in the hospital, battling for her life.
News About Nigeria gathered that the girl, who was unconscious for over twenty-four hours, was diagnosed with a head injury and urgently needed surgery.
After forty-eight hours, she regained consciousness but has remained in constant pain despite receiving treatment to ease her pain.
Mercy’s uncle, Masefan Moses, explained that Patrick broke the window net of his neighbour’s home to get entry.
When he saw Mercy sound asleep, he crept into the kitchen of the home, took up a pestle, and went into Mercy’s room.
Then, while Mercy was in bed, he raped her and struck her with the pestle.
Those in the neighbourhood who had assumed there had been a thief in the house noticed the disturbance.
Moses said, “I opened the door and found her lying on the floor, with blood streaming from her ears.”
He continued, “I noticed bathroom slippers by the door and suspected someone might still be inside. I searched the house thoroughly and soon discovered the boy hiding in a drum in the bathroom. I pulled him out, and the military from the barracks took him into custody.”
He mentioned that after discovering Mercy in a brutalised condition and capturing the attacker, her family took her to Paulsonic Hospital Limited in Enugu for urgent medical treatment.
Moses added that they had initially planned to take her to a teaching hospital in Ebonyi, but it was closed due to a strike.
He reported that Mercy was diagnosed with “Acute Epidural Hematoma,” which is a blood accumulation in the epidural space, according to a computed tomography (CT) scan conducted by Salt City Diagnostic Consultant in Ebonyi State and signed by Oboke S.O.
“The bleeding from her ears has stopped, but her eyes and cheeks remain swollen due to the injuries,” Moses explained, adding that “she is only able to eat pap (maize puree).”
