The Nigerian Army’s 6th Brigade in Jalingo has recovered 118 stolen cows from bandits in the Karim Lamido local government area in Taraba.
They also arrested seven suspected terrorists in separate operations.
The troops responded to a tip about bandits attacking a Fulani settlement in Katlong Village, engaging the bandits, who fled in disarray due to heavy fire.
One suspected bandit, Yusuf Musa, was arrested with an AK-47 rifle and ammunition, and the recovered cows were returned to their rightful owners.
News About Nigeria reports that Captain Oni Olubodunde, Acting Assistant Director of 6 Brigade Army Public Relations, made a statement on Saturday.
In a separate operation on August 6, 2024, troops received a tip about suspected bandits heading to the Mashingi Village market.
According to him, ”troops of the 6th Brigade deployed at Kambari, acting on credible intelligence on suspected bandits attacking a Fulani settlement in Katlong Village of Karim Lamido Local Government Area, swiftly engaged the bandits, who fled in disarray due to the heavy fire encounter with the troops.
“1 suspected bandit named Yusuf Musa was arrested with an AK-47 rifle and 20 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. Also, 118 cows were recovered and handed over to their rightful owners.
“Similarly, on 6 August 2024, troops received credible information on suspected bandits en route to Mashingi Village market in Karim Lamido Local Government Area to purchase food items.
The army nabbed four suspected bandits—Yusuf Hassan, Mohammed Mamman, Haruna Illa, and Hammadu Shaibu—recovering a motorcycle, mobile phones, and N57,000.
On August 9, 2024, troops responded to a tip about suspects gathering machetes for criminal activities, arresting two suspects, Umar Zubair and Isah Abdulahi.
It, however, recovered 436 machetes, filling machines, a mobile phone, and fabrication tools.
The commander of the 6th Brigade, Brig. Gen. Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the troops for their dedication and swift action.
Chidiebere reiterated the Nigerian Army’s commitment to maintaining peace and security across the country.
He urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the authorities.
