The Senate has announced Senator Musa Mustapha, a member of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Yobe State as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Livestock Development.
News About Nigeria reports that Senate President Godswill Akpabio made the announcement alongside other heads of committees during plenary.
This comes after President Bola Tinubu recently announced the creation of the Ministry of Livestock Development.
Akpabio also said that with the elevation of Sen. Mohammed Monguno (APC-Borno) to the position of Majority Whip of the Senate, his Committee on Judiciary Human Rights and Legal Matters would now be chaired by Sen. Adegbonmire Adeniyi (SAN), (APC-Ondo).
Other appointments include that of Sen. Ali Ndume (APC-Borno) as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Tourism, while Sen. Anthony Ani (APC-Ebonyi) becomes deputy chairman of the committee.
“Chairman of the Senate Committee on the proposed Reparation and Repatriation becomes Sen. Ned Nwoko (PDP-Delta).
“The Deputy Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation lies with Sen. Mohammed Monguno in addition to being the Chief Whip of the Senate.”
He said that Sen. Simon Lalong (APC-Plateau) chairs the Senate Committee on Agricultural Institutions.
Akpabio further announced that Sen. Abdul Ningi (PDP-Bauchi) retained his position as Chairman Senate Committee on National Identity and Population.
He said ”in line with the spirit of togetherness and forgiveness, Sen. Abdul Ningi retains his earlier position as committee chairman on National Population.”
Recall that the president had in September 2023 approved the establishment of the committee to address herders and farmers’ clashes and bolster livestock and dairy industries.
Tinubu set up the committee after receiving a report from the National Conference on Livestock Reforms and Mitigation of Associated Conflicts in Nigeria.
