Edo: Shaibu Posing As Deputy Governor, Correspondence From Him Are Forged

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday slammed the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) over its call for the resignation of the former deputy governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu.

Recall that the Deputy Director of the PDP in charge of media, Rev. Olu Martin, had on Monday called for the resignation of Shaibu from the party after he pledged his support for the APC candidate in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo.

According to Shaibu, his decision to support the APC candidate was because the PDP candidate in the Guber poll, Asue Ighodalo, is an outsider.

Reacting to him, the PDP called for his resignation because his allegiance was no longer to the party and because he was out to sabotage their efforts ahead of the election.

News About Nigeria reports that in response to the PDP’s call for the former deputy governor’s resignation, the APC noted that instead of worrying about Shaibu, the PDP should rather be worried about Governor Godwin Obaseki, who is leading the party into political oblivion.

They further described the call by the PDP as irritating and baseless.

The statement by the Publicity Director of the APC in the state, Orobosa Omo-Ojo, partly reads, “The All Progressives Congress wishes to call on Nigerians and Edo people, in particular, to ignore the irritating and baseless call on a former deputy governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, to resign his membership of the drowning Peoples Democratic Party, because of his open declaration of support for Senator Monday Okpebholo, the candidate of the APC.

“It is obvious that the PDP has yet to understand the hurricane that has happened in their party. Virtually everyone with political relevance has left and those still in the party are only lying in wait as undertakers to bury the party. Rather than ask Shaibu to resign, the PDP should suspend their outgoing governor, Obaseki, for leading them to political obscurity in Edo State. Philip Shaibu is an Iroko, a true definition of homeboy and a political giant in the state, like the APC candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo.”
