The flagbearer of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections has joined his supporters, who are widely known as ‘Obidients,’ to kick against the ‘Obidient Directorate’ recently created by the party, News About Nigeria reports.
In a statement that was signed by his Chief Spokesperson, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, Obi explained that he is against the ‘Obidient Directorate’, created by the Labour Party, because the Obidient Movement “is beyond a political party and cannot be cubbyholed into one.”
Obi further explained that membership of the Obidient Movement cuts across a political party, sex, tribe, religion, or geopolitical area, pointing out that the driving force of the body is rescuing and building a new Nigeria that is possible.
“I like to categorically state that the Obidient Movement is not a directorate of any particular political party. Any individual or individuals claiming to be leaders of this non-existent directorate are simply not members of the broader Obidient Movement.”
The former Anambra state governor further noted that there may be a youth mobilisation directorate in political parties, but the Obidient movement is far beyond a particular political party.
The LP chieftain also explained that the Obidient Movement would continue to be the all-inclusive collective movement that it is, adding that people with the new Nigeria mandate, regardless of their traditional political, religious, and ethnic affiliations, are welcomed.
He also added that the movement is not domiciled within any particular party or headquartered in any particular part of the country, as its membership spans across Africa and the globe.
Following Obi’s stance on the Labour Party’s ‘Directorate of Obidient,’ the LP has renamed it to the Directorate of Mobilisation and Integration.
