The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, reiterated the President Bola Tinubu-led government’s commitment to the welfare of Nigerian workers, News About Nigeria reports.
Wike, who was represented by the Head of Service of the FCT, Atang Udo Samuel, said this during the 2024 May Day celebration in Abuja on Wednesday.
According to the minister, the current administration understands and recognises the contributions of workers to the nation’s development and is dedicated to protecting their rights and interests.
The former Rivers state governor further noted that “the well-being of Nigerian workers is at the top of our agenda,” and the government is committed to ensuring that they give workers the best to enable them to continue to effectively carry out their responsibilities.
He said, “Workers are the backbone of our economy, and it is our responsibility to provide them with the necessary support and resources to excel. We are committed to creating a conducive work environment, improving working conditions, and enhancing the overall quality of life for all FCT workers.”
Wike, while commending the workers for their commitment to nation-building, charged them to continue to serve the nation with integrity and doggedness.
Speaking to workers in the FCT, the minister revealed that the government has established the FCT Civil Service Commission to promote transparency, accountability, and career progression for FCT administration workers.
According to him, the commission will “play a crucial role in ensuring that workers’ rights are respected and their hard work is rewarded with opportunities for growth and development.”
