The All Progressives Congress (APC) has provided insight into the candidate who will carry the party’s banner in the upcoming gubernatorial election in Ondo State, scheduled for November 16.
News About Nigeria reports that this hint was conveyed in an Easter message endorsed by the State Publicity Secretary Alex Kalejaye.
According to Kalejaye, the ruling party stands as the most organised and viable option in the state.
The party stated, “The focus of the party is to support a conducive atmosphere for the electoral exercise so that the most popular aspirant can emerge as our candidate.
“Ondo APC has reasons to be appreciative of God for His goodness in the last seven years, adding that, from all economic and political indications, the situation of things can only be better.
“We rejoice with our members, and indeed, all Christians, over the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, which symbolises victory. It is the essence of Easter.
“It is our wish that the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ will activate a deeper sense of patriotism, unity within our fold, and uncommon love for our dear state, in the interest of all.”
Key contenders within the party include Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, former Ondo Deputy Governor who assumed office after the demise of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu on December 27, 2023.
Other contenders include Olusola Oke, Isaac Kekemeke, Mayowa Akinfolarin, former Commissioner for Finance in the state Wale Akinterinwa, Senator representing Ondo South Jimoh Ibrahim, Gbenga Edema, Dr. Paul Akintelure, and Hon. Jimi Odumayo.
As per the timetable released by the party last month, the sale of nominations, expression of interest, and delegate forms for contestants will commence on April 3 and end on April 10, 2024, while the primary election is scheduled for April 25, 2024.
