Ibadan Explosion: PDP Condoles With Oyo Government

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed its heartfelt condolences to Governor Seyi Makinde, the Oyo State government, and the people of the state following the tragic explosion in the Bodija area of Ibadan, the state capital.

News About Nigeria reported that the incident resulted in the loss of lives, critical injuries, and displacement of numerous people, along with the destruction of homes and property.

Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, conveyed the party’s sorrow in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday.

The PDP commended Governor Makinde for his exceptional leadership, acknowledging his swift response and intervention.

The governor promptly visited the scene of the incident and provided essential emergency aids and support to the victims and their families.

This assistance included the immediate evacuation of victims, covering medical bills, offering temporary accommodation to the displaced, and ensuring support for their rehabilitation.

The party stated that Governor Makinde’s prompt intervention played a crucial role in saving lives and providing relief to the affected people and families.

In addition to expressing condolences, the PDP called for a thorough investigation into the remote and immediate causes of the blast.

The aim is to identify the culprits responsible for the tragedy, ensure justice is served, and implement measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The party concluded its statement by offering prayers for the souls of the departed to rest in peace and extending wishes for the speedy recovery of those injured in the unfortunate explosion.

Meanwhile, in response to the incident, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has established a committee to review the laws governing the control of explosives in the country.

The Minister of Defense, Mohammed Abubakar, announced the formation of the committee after the FEC meeting held on Wednesday.

The committee’s mandate includes investigating whether the explosion was indeed caused by illegal miners, as indicated by preliminary investigations conducted by security agencies.
