Both Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state and Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos state have declared Monday, August 21, 2023 work free day to celebrate Isese Day.
Announcing the development in a statement on Saturday, Secretary to the Oyo State Government Professor Olanike Adeyemo urged traditional worshippers in the state to use the period to pray for the peace, unity, and stability of the state in particular and the country in general.
Professor Adeyemo in the statement detailed that Governor Makinde’s move to declare a public holiday was an indication that the governor was committed to respecting all religious practices in the state.
In a related development, the Lagos state government also on Saturday declared Monday work free to enable the Isese traditional worshippers to celebrate the Isese day.
In a statement dated Friday and signed by the Lagos State Head of Service, Hakeem Muri-Okunola, the state government noted that the declaration of Monday as a work-free day for public servants was to preserve and promote the Yoruba cultural heritage.
“In restating its commitment to continue to provide the necessary support to traditional institutions in the state with a view to promoting our indigenous culture and tradition while preserving our heritage, Mr. Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has graciously declared Monday, 21st August 2023, a work-free day for public servants in the state. Work will, therefore, resume on Tuesday, 22nd August at 8 am prompt,” memo by Lagos state government read.
Reports detail that Ogun and Osun governments have also announced Monday a work-free day to celebrate the traditionalists.
