The Super Falcons of Nigeria are seeking a resolution for the backlog of their overdue allowances and bonuses, News About Nigeria reports.
In the aftermath of their elimination from the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, the Super Falcons are shifting focus towards addressing a longstanding concern – the recovery of unpaid allowances and bonuses from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
The players’ quest to secure their financial rights, which stretches back to 2021, has garnered support from the global players’ union, FIFPRO.
FIFPRO on Tuesday confirmed their involvement in assisting the Super Falcons with their dispute against the NFF regarding camp allowances, expenses and bonuses that have accumulated over the past two years.
This matter initially emerged during the team’s preparations for the World Cup, when camp bonuses and allowances became a point of contention.
Despite the uncertainty, team captain Onome Ebi dispelled rumors of a potential boycott, emphasizing the team’s commitment to finish the tournament first.
Nonetheless, the unresolved issue has resurfaced. A team member reportedly revealed that the primary concern within the camp is the recovery of outstanding allowances and bonuses from the NFF.
FIFPRO expressed empathy for the players’ frustration, acknowledging the unfortunate recurrence of similar situations.
The union has pledged to collaborate with the players to ensure that their contractual rights are upheld and outstanding payments are resolved.
Beyond the outstanding allowances and bonuses, each player is entitled to an additional $60,000 from FIFA for their advancement to the round of 16.
FIFPRO had previously negotiated for direct payments to the players from FIFA, but FIFA President Gianni Infantino clarified that such payments would be processed through the respective football federations.
