Elders under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State are unhappy with former president, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, News About Nigeria reports.
They expressed their disapproval over Goodluck Jonathan’s purported efforts to select the ministerial candidate for Bayelsa State in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.
The elders made their grievances known in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital on Tuesday.
They questioned why Jonathan, who openly supported the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Atiku Abubakar, for President, now wants to pick a minister for another party.
The Chairman of the Bayelsa APC Elders Council, Chief Michael Adomokeme, said it is unfair for Jonathan to try to benefit from something he didn’t contribute to.
He compared it to someone wanting a salary from one company after working for a different one. However, Adomekeme said he believes that President Tinubu, known for rewarding hard work, would not allow such unfairness.
He reminded everyone of the challenges the APC faced in Bayelsa and how Jonathan tried to make them fail during the 2023 elections and questioned Jonathan’s sudden interest in nominating the minister for Bayelsa State.
The elders said they find it demeaning for a former President to beg for a single ministerial slot, as it diminishes the importance of the office of the President of Nigeria.
They said they want Jonathan to continue being a respected statesman and not act as a political lobbyist.
“It is even an aberration and very demeaning for a former President to go cap-in-hand begging for a single ministerial slot. It ridicules and relegates the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”, Adomokeme said.
