Senate Confirms Tinubu’s Ministerial Nominees

On Wednesday, the Nigerian Senate confirmed the nomination of seven ministerial nominees forwarded to it by President Bola Tinubu for appointment as ministers and members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

The confirmation of the nominees followed hours of screening by the Senators at the Committee of the Whole.

News About Nigeria reports that the ministers-designate include Dr Nentawe Yilwatda, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction; Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, Minister of Labour and Employment; and Amb. Bianca Odinaka Odumegu-Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.

Others are Dr Jumoke Oduwole, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment; Idi Muktar Maiha, Minister of Livestock Development; Rt. Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, Minister of State, Housing, and Dr Suwaiba Said Ahmad, Minister of State, Education.

It can be recalled that in a letter to the Senate last week, the president sought expeditious consideration of his request by the Senate.

Meanwhile, during the screening today, Senate President Godswill Akpabio cautioned Senator Osita Ngwu for praising the beauty of Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu.

During the screening, Bianca, like the six other ministerial nominees read her credentials before the red chamber and was subsequently quizzed by the lawmakers.

When Akpabio opened the floor for questions, Ngwu, who currently serves as the Senator representing Enugu West District in the 10th National Assembly, started by applauding Bianca’s beauty to which he attracted a rebuke.

He said, “Mr President, the beautiful nominee standing before us.”

Reacting to his comment, Akpabio said, “Restrict yourself to the resume. Forget the word beautiful. She didn’t put in the CV that she is beautiful.”
