JEDC Laments Constant Grid Collapse

The Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) has lamented the constant collapse of the national grid, plunging the nation into darkness, News About Nigeria reports.

The Head of Corporate Communications, Dr. Elijah Adakole, made this known while speaking with newsmen in the state on Saturday.

He noted that the reoccurring national power grid collapse affects distribution companies’ revenue generation.

Adakole stated that most of JElDC’s customers are on the company’s pre-paid metering system, which he noted means they will only pay for energy consumed.

Therefore, he noted that the unavailability of power to distribute to consumers would invariably lead to zero revenue collection, a situation that would lead to serious financial losses.

He also called on the federal government to seek long-lasting solutions to the issue.

He said, “The incessant collapse of the grid also has a devastating impact on the economy, as most businesses are dependent on electricity at both the macro and micro levels.”

In a similar development, the Anambra and Enugu governments have begun seeking alternative power supplies amid the national grid collapse.

The House of Representatives has also directed its Committee on Power to investigate the frequent national grid collapses and provide a report within three weeks.

This decision followed a motion of urgent national importance raised by Hon. Mansur Manu Soro (Bauchi, PDP) during the plenary session.

In his motion, Hon. Soro expressed deep concern over the persistent grid failures, which have plunged the entire country into blackout, worsening the economic challenges already faced by Nigerians.

He stressed that a stable power supply is essential for driving economic growth and development in any nation.
