Rapper Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Banks, was arrested on Thursday in connection with an alleged murder-for-hire scheme, according to police records.
The 32-year-old artist is currently being held without bail at the Broward County Correctional Facility in Florida and is awaiting extradition to California to face federal charges, News About Nigeria reports.
This arrest follows the fatal shooting of Lul Pab in August 2022.
Lul Pab and rapper Quando Rondo were ambushed at a gas station in Los Angeles, where gunfire erupted.
Lul Pab later died from his injuries in the hospital, while the suspects reportedly fled the scene in a white sedan.
A mugshot of Lil Durk has surfaced, showing him in a yellow T-shirt against a grey backdrop.
Members of his Only the Family (OTF) crew—Kavon London Grant, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, Keith Jones, David Brian Lindsey, and Asa Houston—have also been charged in relation to the shooting, which authorities claim was aimed at Quando Rondo.
According to a U.S. District Court filing obtained by Music Times, the indictment alleges that an unidentified OTF member offered financial incentives to people willing to kill Quando Rondo.
The motive is believed to be tied to Rondo”s alleged involvement in the 2020 shooting death of rapper King Von in Atlanta, which escalated from a confrontation into gunfire.
Lil Durk has previously faced several charges related to a 2019 shooting; however, those charges were dropped in 2022.
At that time, he faced accusations of attempted murder, aggravated assault, participation in criminal street gang activity, and possession of a firearm during a felony.
The 2019 incident involved a non-lethal shooting, where police claimed video footage showed Banks firing a weapon while driving past a location.
After warrants were issued for his arrest, Lil Durk announced his intention to turn himself in on Instagram, and he released a song titled “Turn Myself In,” where he addressed the “false accusations” against him and maintained his innocence.
