Bushra Bibi: Wife Of Former Pakistan PM Imran Khan Released On Bail After Nine Months In Jail

Bushra Bibi, the wife of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, was released from prison on Thursday, following her bail grant a day earlier in a case concerning the illegal sale of state gifts.

News About Nigeria gathered that this marks the end of her nine-month imprisonment and is a legal win for Khan and his family, especially as he remains incarcerated since August of last year.

Bibi, who was arrested in January, was released from Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, where Khan is still held.

Local television footage showed a small group of supporters celebrating her release by throwing rose petals at the two white SUVs that escorted her away from the prison.

Despite her release, Bibi faces at least one additional corruption case related to allegations of receiving land from a real estate developer.

In a show of solidarity, Khan’s political party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, welcomed her back on social media, pointing out the challenges she faced during her time in custody.

Khan himself is embroiled in multiple legal battles, including charges under anti-terrorism laws, which have arisen since his removal from office in 2022.

The former cricket star and his supporters claim that the charges against them are politically motivated, aimed at undermining their credibility and popularity.

Despite these challenges, Khan’s party performed strongly in the most recent elections.

The political landscape remains turbulent, with Khan’s ongoing conflict with the powerful military and the current government led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif contributing to unrest in Pakistan.

Bushra Bibi, also known for her spiritual leadership and devotion to Sufism, has largely kept a low profile, appearing publicly only occasionally since her marriage to Khan six months before he first took office in 2018.
