Media personality Toke Makinwa has shut down rumours about her alleged marriage to her long-time friend, Farouk Umar, after a video from her birthday Thanksgiving sparked speculation online.
The video, which surfaced on Sunday, showed Toke and Farouk dressed in white, leading to widespread social media buzz and congratulatory messages, News About Nigeria reports.
However, Toke quickly clarified the situation by posting a video from the event on her social media, captioned “Thanksgiving service,” indicating that the gathering was a pre-birthday celebration, not a wedding.
Previously, Toke had shared a prophecy she received years ago, stating that “eyes have not seen, ears have not heard what God is about to do” in her life.
She said she was grateful for how her life had unfolded, leading up to her 40th birthday on November 3.
Adding fuel to the rumours, fellow media personality Dorcas Shola Fapson (Ms. DSF) had initially hinted on social media that the two were getting married.
However, she later clarified that her comment was a joke and that the event was simply Toke’s thanksgiving ahead of her birthday.
Ms. DSF posted a video message, saying, “Bloggers please, I’m just joking. They [Toke Makinwa and Farouk Umar] are not getting married. Toke is just doing thanksgiving for her birthday.”
She captioned the video, “I play too much and bloggers eat sh*t too fast.”
Farouk Umar, who was rumoured to have been in a previous relationship with actress Sharon Ooja, was present at the event, alongside other celebrities like Kate Henshaw, Enioluwa Adeoluwa, and BBNaija stars Wanni, Handi, and Liquorose.
Toke Makinwa was previously married to businessman Maje Ayida. The couple married in 2014 but separated in 2017.
