Nigeria Governor's Forum Mourns Victims Of Jigawa Tanker Explosion

On Wednesday, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) mourned the victims of the petrol tanker explosion that occurred on Tuesday in Majia town, Jigawa State.

While mourning the victims, the governors prayed for the recovery of those hospitalised.

News About Nigeria earlier reported that the tragedy happened at around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Speaking on the tragedy, the Jigawa State Police Spokesperson, Shi’isu Adam, revealed that the tanker driver lost control near Khadija University.

Following the accident, some individuals attempted to scoop the spilt product, causing the explosion which led to many fatalities.

Speaking on this in a statement issued by Rafiu Ajakaiye, Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman of the NGF, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the forum extended its heartfelt condolences to the people and government of Jigawa State.

They further prayed for the repose of the souls of the dead and that God would give their families and the state at large the fortitude to bear the loss.

The statement partly reads, “The Forum sends its heartfelt condolences to the people and government of Jigawa State on this sad incident, especially to the families that lost their loved ones and to those who sustained injuries in the fire. The NGF says the reported circumstances of the incident are worrisome, urging citizens to avoid taking advantage of petrol spills due to the inherent volatility and existential danger.

“Our hearts are with His Excellency Governor Umar Namadi, the people of the state, and families involved in the incident. We ask Almighty Allah to grant them solace at this trying time and admit the deceased to al-jannah Firdaus.”
