Shettima Empathises With Poor Masses Says Harsh Economic Decision Necessary For Better Nigeria

Vice President Kashim Shettima sympathised with Nigerians, particularly young people and those facing financial struggles, acknowledging the economic challenges currently affecting the nation.

According to the Vice President in Abuja during the 30th anniversary of the Nigerian Economic Summit, the Bola Tinubu-led administration has no other option but to continue with their economic policies even though they are affecting the people.

According to him, they are sure that though it might take time and also be inconvenient for the people, it will definitely birth a better Nigeria at the end of the day.

News About Nigeria reports that Shettima said this in response to the recent hike in petrol prices, which has left many Nigerians in pain as it has caused an increase in the cost of transportation and food in the market.

The Vice President said, “Some of the policy decisions, the policy options available are painful, but they are almost inevitable. My heart and the heart of President Bola Tinubu go to the Nigerian people. We empathise with what the poor and the young are going through in the Nigerian nation, but we have no option. Some of these decisions are unpopular, but the truth is most often the truth that men prepare not to hear.

“Like many other nations, Nigeria has experienced significant economic problems over the past few years. The challenges have been global as well as domestic, ranging from the COVID-19 pandemic and fluctuation of oil prices to internal security issues, inflation, and structural weaknesses in our economy. Nigeria’s growth trajectory has been volatile, heavily dependent on oil revenue, and unable to create enough jobs.”
