NAFDAC Warns Nasarawa Bakers, Water Producers Against Unwholesome Practices

NAFDAC Workers Embark On Indefinite Strike Over Promotion Controversies, Welfare

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has cautioned bakers and table water producers in Nasarawa State to adhere to quality standards or face sanctions, News About Nigeria reports.

This warning was delivered by Francis Ononiwu, NAFDAC’s North-Central Director, during a stakeholders’ meeting with the Master Bakers and the Association of Table Water Producers of Nigeria on Friday in Lafia.

Ononiwu stated that the engagement was part of NAFDAC’s ongoing strategy to ensure that food and water producers comply with the agency’s regulations.

He noted that water and bread are essential to the daily lives of Nigerians, and as such, it is critical that these products meet health and safety standards.

“Bread is a staple food in most Nigerian households, so maintaining its quality is crucial,” Ononiwu said.

He urged producers to follow NAFDAC’s guidelines, stressing that any compromise in the production process could affect the final product’s quality.

He further explained that all manufacturers of regulated products are required to renew their registrations within the stipulated period, warning that failure to comply would lead to sanctions.

“We will continue our routine inspections, and violators will face the consequences, including the possible shutdown of factories or prosecution,” he added.

Nasarawa State NAFDAC Coordinator, Matthew Olawale, also urged stakeholders to ensure their registration documents are up-to-date and to avoid violating the agency’s operational guidelines. 

Alfred Alogala, former chairman of the Association of Table Water Producers (ATWAP) in Nasarawa, praised NAFDAC for organising the forum, expressing optimism that it would help producers maintain high standards and protect public health.

He encouraged members to continue adhering to safety practices to prevent the spread of infections and diseases through their products.
