A Federal High Court sitting in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, on Thursday, issued a public summons against the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, to attend court and answer to a fresh 16-count pending allegations against him.
The public summon was given by Justice Maryanne Anenih in a ruling following an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
News About Nigeria reports that, by this summons, the former Governor is to attend court on October 24 in response to the summons and for his arraignment along with two other defendants.
In her ruling, Justice Anenih ordered the EFCC to publish the public summons in a widely circulated newspaper.
She also tasked the EFCC to paste copies of the public summons at Bello’s last known address and in conspicuous places on court premises.
In its application before the court, the EFCC claimed that it had been unable to serve Bello with the charge filed on September 24, in which the ex-governor and two others were charged with criminal breach of trust to the tune of ₦110.4 billion.
The other two defendants in the charge are Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu.
It can also be recalled that the former governor had last month claimed to have finally turned himself to the EFCC.
The anti-graft agency had however countered the claim noting that he was not in their custody and still remains wanted.
The anti-graft agency had said, “Bello, already declared wanted by the Commission for alleged N80.2 billion money laundering charges, remains wanted with a subsisting warrant for his arrest. The Commission wishes to state that Bello is not in its custody.”
