The Coalition of Concerned Citizens of Kaduna State has distanced itself from the planned protests on October 1, urging residents to focus on constructive dialogue rather than disruptive actions.

Speaking to journalists in Kaduna on Monday, the coalition’s spokesperson, Yusuf Lawal, said the group is committed to peace and development.

“We firmly reject any maliciously stage-managed protests that could lead to chaos and violence. October 1 should be a day of celebration, honouring our past heroes, not a day for destruction and civil unrest,” Lawal said.

He also praised the government’s ongoing efforts to improve the lives of citizens, particularly with the establishment of skill acquisition centres, set to launch in December.

Lawal urged transparency and fairness in the selection process for these initiatives.

Instead of protests, the coalition encourages the people of Kaduna to engage in the upcoming local government elections and work towards constructive change.

In a related development, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has deployed officers across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) ahead of the country’s 64th Independence Day celebration.

According to a statement by FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the deployment includes explosive ordinance disposal (EOD) units, anti-riot equipment, and heightened visibility policing.

The police have assured residents of a peaceful celebration and urged vigilance, encouraging citizens to report any suspicious activity during the event.

The statement partly reads, “The FCT Police Command, in anticipation of the upcoming October 1st Independence Day celebration, has strategically deployed adequate personnel and equipment throughout the FCT. These proactive deployments aim to ensure that residents of the FCT enjoy a hitch-free Independence Day celebration. The deployment will include Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) personnel, anti-riot equipment, and visibility policing, among others.”
