'Kano Emir's Reinstatement Vindication For Northern Traditional Leadership' - El-Rufai

Nasir El-Rufai, a former Governor of Kaduna State, has said that the reinstatement of the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, is vindication for traditional rulers in Northern Nigeria.

The former governor also described Sanusi’s reinstatement as one of the most significant moments of his life.

News About Nigeria reports that El-Rufai said this on Wednesday in Kano at the Arewa Tech Fest, a gathering of political and technology leaders aimed at discussing advancements in Northern Nigeria.

The fest was attended by key figures, including the Governor of Kano, Abba Yusuf, the Governor of Katsina, Dr. Dikko Radda, and the Governor of Zamfara, Dr. Dauda Lawal.

Speaking at the event, the former governor expressed his deep excitement about Sanusi’s return to the throne, which he said was a personal victory for him.

He said, “This reinstatement marks a moment of vindication and renewal for Northern Nigeria’s traditional leadership. The reinstatement of His Highness is one of the most important events in my life, and I want to congratulate you once again.”

He also appreciated the Kano State Government for ensuring that the deposed Emir was reinstated into office, adding that it helps believes that other states would learn from them.

It can be recalled that Emir Sanusi who is a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria was controversially dethroned in 2020 by the immediate past governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje.

However, Ganduje’s successor, Abba Yusuf reinstated the deposed Emir as the Emir of Kano in May.
