Singer and activist, Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has taken legal action against VeryDarkMan in response to claims that he assisted cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, aka Bobrisky, in securing a comfortable stay in a VIP section of a correctional centre.
Falz, through his legal team, filed a lawsuit demanding media personality Vincent Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), retract the defamatory statement or face legal consequences for damages to his character.
The controversy stems from Bobrisky’s arrest on April 3, 2024, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over charges of naira abuse.
Following his release on August 5, 2024, an audio clip shared by VeryDarkMan circulated online, suggesting that Falz and his father, Femi Falana (SAN), helped Bobrisky avoid harsher conditions during his detention.
In the lawsuit, Falz refuted the claims, acknowledging that while Bobrisky reached out to him, the conversation was strictly advisory.
The lawsuit clarified that Bobrisky had requested Falz’s assistance in influencing his stay in the VIP section of the correctional centre, to which Falz responded by advising against paying any bribes to officials.
The lawsuit also stated VeryDarkMan’s post on social media was defamatory, which insinuated that Falz and his father were involved in unethical practices, including a suggestion that Falz was trying to secure a presidential pardon for Bobrisky.
Falz’s legal representatives demanded an immediate retraction and public apology from Verydarkman, stating: “The publication was a reckless attempt to damage our client’s reputation. It contained false allegations that suggest our client was involved in bribery and conspiracy to pervert justice.”
The lawsuit further warned that if the retraction and apology were not issued within 24 hours, legal action would proceed, seeking damages for the harm caused by the defamatory statements.
VeryDarkMan has not responded to the lawsuit.
