Kwara Varsity Gets New Vice Chancellor 

Professor Medinat Folorunsho Salman has become the pioneer acting vice chancellor of the newly established Kwara State University of Education, Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, News About Nigeria reports. 

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, on Tuesday.

This comes after the Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, appointed her pioneer VC.

He noted that her appointment is effective immediately and she is expected to begin work immediately.

Salman, who is a professor of mathematics education, has also achieved a feat as the first female professor to emerge from the Ilorin Emirate.

She also has interests in resolving gender issues in mathematics and science education and propagating innovation in mathematics education with the aim of bringing development to the world.

The statement reads, “Salman, a professor of mathematics education, was until the appointment a lecturer at the Department of Science Education and coordinator of the Educational Technology Centre at the University of Ilorin.

“She earned her Bachelor of Education from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 1985; a Master’s degree in Mathematics Education at the University of Ilorin in 1990; and a doctoral degree in Mathematics Education from the University of Ilorin in 1998.

“She is the first female professor from Ilorin Emirate.

“Her research interests are Mathematics Education, gender issues in mathematics and science education, and innovation in mathematics education in the developing world.

“The appointment is with immediate effect.”

Recall that the state government established the University of Education, Ilorin, in May this year.
