Reno Omokri has opined that Nigerians are not mature in matters related to politics, News About Nigeria reports.
The former special adviser to former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan shared his opinion in a statement via his verified handle on X on Sunday, while reacting to the reactions of Nigerians on the outcome of the Edo State governorship election.
Recall that Edo State held its governorship election on Saturday, where the fate of who takes over the reins of leadership in the state was decided.
The All Progressive Congress (APC) won the election, defeating the ruling party in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In reaction, Omokri slammed the politician, Dele Momodu, over his comments on the election.
Omokri faulted Momodu for claiming that the election was distressing, disgusting, and depressing.
According to him, Nigerians are politically immature and only accept the outcomes of elections when they win.
He wrote, “Under APC, the Independent National Electoral Commission conducted a gubernatorial election in Osun State, and the Peoples Democratic Party defeated the ruling All Progressive Congress in a state that some in the opposition claimed is the actual state of origin of the National Leader of the APC.
“After that election, Dele Momodu praised the INEC and publicly rejoiced with the winner of that election, his friend, Senator Ademola Adeleke.
“Today, the same Dele Momodu attacked the INEC he once praised, claiming that the #EdoDecides24 election is “distressing, disgusting and depressing”.
“It shows that we are not politically mature when we only celebrate and accept elections we won and condemn those we lost. Democracy should not be altered to suit our whims and caprices. Instead, we must adapt our temperament to suit democracy.”
