Eight Political Parties To Contend In Benue LG Election

Eight political parties are set to participate in the upcoming local government election in Benue State, News About Nigeria reports.

The figure was given by the Chairman of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC), Telumun Tombowua, on Thursday.

Tombowua listed the political parties participating in the election including; the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the Labour Party (LP), the Action Alliance Congress (AAC), the Social Democratic Party (SDP), the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

Speaking about the election which is slated for October 5, 2024, the BSIEC Chairman noted that no court can stop the conduct of the election, except God.

He further promised that the election would be a free and fair election as the BSIEC was prepared for the election.

He, however, noted that the law establishing the commission does not permit the use of a bimodal voter accreditation machine for the election.

He said, “Fourteen political parties actually indicated interest, but only eight political parties completed the processes and submitted their lists of candidates. Therefore, only eight political parties will be participating in the upcoming election.

“There is nothing that will stop this election, aside from God, because the latest amendment to the Electoral Law has prohibited court interference in any activity leading to our election. So whether you go to court or have an injunction or not, it will not stop us from conducting this election, according to the latest Benue State LG amended law.”
