Crisis Resolution: PDP BoT Meets National Assembly Caucus

The Peoples Democratic Party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) is holding a crucial meeting with the party’s National Assembly caucus to address the ongoing internal crisis, News About Nigeria has learnt.

The PDP has been plagued by infighting since the 2023 elections, with stakeholders criticizing Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum for failing to implement reforms.

Also, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike’s persistent criticism of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the PDP Governors Forum has exacerbated tensions.

Recently, PDP BoT Chairman Adolphus Nwabara and Secretary Senator Ahmed Makarfi met with Wike in Abuja to discuss the party’s structure.

Following this, the BoT met with Bala Mohammed, the Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum.

It was gathered that today’s meeting with the National assembly caucus aims to gauge lawmakers’ sentiments on the party’s challenges and propose solutions.

Attendees include Senate Deputy Minority Leader Lere Oyewumi, House of Representatives Minority Whip Ali Isa JC, and Hon. Pastor Ojema Ojotu.

The closed-door meeting is taking place at the PDP office, Legacy House, in Abuja.

In August, the BoT had written to Wike, seeking a meeting to resolve the lingering crisis in the party, especially in Rivers state, days after meeting with Fubara.

The PDP governors had recently tagged the former Rivera governor a “mole” in the party, a claim the minister rejected in totality in a recent television interview.

However, the acting National Chairman of the party, IIiya Umar Damagum, recently handed over the party’s structure in Rivers State to Wike. With the action of the NWC, Wike has become the party’s leader in Rivers, contrary to the tradition of political parties.
