Umar Bago, governor of Niger, has signed the bill into law to amend the Office of the Auditor-General for both the state and local governments.
News About Nigeria reports that this is contained in a statement by Bologi Ibrahim, his chief press secretary.
The two bills were signed into law at the Council Chamber of Government House, Minna.
“A law to amend the Office of the Auditor-General of the State Law 2021 and for connected purposes, 2024” and “A law to amend the Office of the Auditor-General for Local Government Law 2021 and for other connected purposes, 2024,” the statement said.
Nasir Mu’azu, the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, clarified changes to the state’s legislation when speaking to journalists.
He explained that the first law modified replaces repeated instances of the word “bill” with “law” to ensure consistency in terminology.
Mu’azu noted that the adjustment is aimed at bringing clarity and precision to the legal framework, eliminating potential confusion arising from the interchangeable use of these terms.
He added that the second law was amended to create sub-section seven, to provide a certain percentage for the office of the Auditor-General and other employees of the two offices.
In 2023, the Niger governor signed an Executive Order implementing the Green Economy initiative.
The Executive Order, which was cited as “the Niger State Green Economy Initiative Order (No.3), 2023, mandated that the Green Economy Initiative shall be driven by the State Blueprint that details the strategic pillars and outlines the strategic key performance indicators, targets, and timelines of the transition into a green economy.”
