President Bola Tinubu has commiserated with the families of the Tijjaniyya Movement in Nigeria who lost their loved ones in an accident on Sunday, News About Nigeria reports.
He sent his condolences in a statement signed by his special adviser on information and strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, on Tuesday.
Recall that 40 members of the Movement had lost their lives in an auto crash on Sunday while travelling from Kwandari in Plateau State to Saminaka, Kaduna State, for a celebratory event to mark Eid-el-Maulud, Prophet Muhammad’s birthday.
An organiser of the Eid celebration, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, stated that their bus collided with an oncoming truck near the town of Lere, leaving 40 dead and several others injured.
The organiser added that the injured people are currently receiving treatment in the hospital.
Reacting to the sad news, the president sympathised with the affected families, members, and leaders of the movement.
He also prayed for the repose of the souls of the departed.
The president has also directed the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) to enhance highway monitoring and reduce the number of road accidents nationwide.
The statement, which was titled “President Tinubu Mourns 40 Participants Killed in Auto Crash,” reads in part, “Tinubu extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and injured, as well as to the governments of Kaduna and Plateau states.
“He has given a standing order to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to scale up its monitoring of the highways, as well as reduce road accidents across the country.”
