The Nigerian Army says its troops have launched a raid on a Boko Haram hideout in Mafa Local Government Area of Borno State, killing three insurgents.
According to sources with knowledge of the operation, Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focusing on the Lake Chad region, said that the troops struck in the early hours of Saturday, catching the terrorists off guard.
Makama said that successful raid was a result of a collaborative effort between the troops of Sector 1 Operation Hadin Kai, the joint task force (north-east) Operation Desert Sanity III, and the civilian joint task force (CJTF).
The publication said there were no reported casualties among the Nigerian troops.
However, in a separate operation, Makama said men of 21 armoured brigade in Pulka and men of CJTF, thwarted an ambush by Boko Haram terrorists along Ngoshe-Ashigashiya road in the state on Friday.
Makama said the terrorists were attempting to cross towards the Mandara mountains with a bag containing stolen corn before the troops thwarted the plan and killed one of them.
“Others fled in disarray with possible gunshot wounds,” the publication said.
News About Nigeria reported earlier that President Bola Tinubu praised the Nigerian Army for their successful operations against security threats in the north-west region of the country.
Tinubu charged the army to continue their efforts to achieve lasting peace and stability.
The president applauded the military’s courage, intelligence agencies’ expertise, and troops’ commitment, adding that he assured them of his ongoing support to ensure the nation’s safety and security.
