Nigerian food critic Opeyemi Famakin has accused popular businessman Cubana Chief Priest of threatening him after he posted a negative review of the businessman’s son’s restaurant in Owerri, Imo State.
Famakin took to Instagram to share a screenshot of an alleged conversation in which Cubana Chief Priest warned him of potential consequences for the unfavourable review, suggesting he would “regret” his actions.
In the message, the businessman also called Famakin a “low life” and said that karma would deal with him for his harsh critique of the restaurant, which is run by his 6-year-old son.
Following the alleged threats, Famakin stated he felt unsafe and had to leave Imo State immediately.
He also urged his followers to hold Cubana Chief Priest responsible if anything happened to him.
“I know a threat when I see one,” Famakin wrote on his Instagram. “If anything happens to me while I am here, you know who to hold accountable. I love how he was polite in the comments for the world to see, but it was a different tone in my DMs.”
In response, Cubana Chief Priest shared CCTV footage from the restaurant, showing Famakin waiting for his burger to be microwaved, which was a key point in his negative review.
Cubana Chief Priest claimed that he initially accepted the criticism and addressed it with his staff, but later learnt that Famakin had specifically requested the burger be microwaved.
In his statement, Cubana Chief Priest expressed disappointment with Famakin, saying: “You asked them to microwave the burger for you, stood there, and waited for it. Then you turned around and used it for content. If you didn’t want your burger microwaved, why didn’t you stop them? I thought the review was honest, but then I found out you asked for it yourself.”
