Embezzlement: LP Urges EFCC, NSA To Investigate Peter Obi, Aisha Yesufu, Others

The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party (LP) has called on the National Security Adviser (NSA) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate prominent figures, including activist Aisha Yesufu, Pastor Itua Ighodalo, and LP’s presidential candidate Peter Obi, for alleged embezzlement and misappropriation of the party’s campaign funds.

The Labour Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, made this appeal on behalf of the National Working Committee (NWC) during a press conference in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The call followed a recent statement by Yesufu, in which she denied involvement in any conspiracy to divert funds from the LP presidential campaign account.

The party alleged that Yesufu, Ighodalo, and others mismanaged and diverted over N12 billion and $15 million in donations intended for the party’s presidential campaign.

Arabambi dismissed Yesufu’s defense as a cover-up, accusing her of working under Peter Obi’s direction to defraud the party.

Arabambi also accused leaders of the Yoruba socio-political group Afenifere, including Pa Ayo Adebanjo, Akin Osuntokun, and Sola Ebiseni, of financial misconduct, claiming they retained over N600 million in private and Afenifere-related accounts.

He alleged that these individuals were hired by Obi to participate in the diversion of campaign funds through fraud and conspiracy.

“The trio of Pa Ayo Adebanjo, Akin Osuntokun, and Sola Ebiseni, alongside Aisha Yesufu and Pastor Itua Ighodalo, were involved in looting, conspiracy, and fraudulent diversion of Labour Party campaign funds under Peter Obi’s directive,” Arabambi stated.

The Labour Party said it is committed to transparency and called on the NSA and EFCC to conduct thorough investigations into the bank accounts associated with the alleged fraud, particularly those linked to Adebanjo, Osuntokun, and Ebiseni.
