The Borno state government has issued a warning to residents to be vigilant about the presence of crocodiles, snakes, and other wild animals that have been swept away by the flood into the communities.
News About Nigeria reports that in a statement on Tuesday, Ali Don Best, general manager of the Borno State Museum Park, said the flood disaster has unleashed dangerous animals into communities.
He said that the recent flood disaster has caused disruption, damage to properties, and loss of lives of over 80% of the animals.
The general manager urged the public to be mindful of crocodiles and snakes and take necessary precautions to avoid them.
Don Best said that ensuring safety and protection for living things within the museum park’s jurisdiction remains paramount.
He prayed for relief from Almighty Allah and called on citizens to pray and turn back to Him.
Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, announced that snakes, crocodiles, and other animals have been displaced from the Sanda Kyarimi Zoological Park in Maiduguri.
Earlier, Usman Tar, Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, urged residents to adhere to designated evacuation routes to ensure their safety.
Recall that many residents have abandoned their homes due to the heavy flood in Maiduguri, the state capital.
The Alau Dam reportedly burst on Tuesday after being at maximum capacity for weeks.
The affected communities are Fori, Galtimari, Gwange, and Bulabulin with the resulting deluge.
However, a social media video showed the floodwaters inundating streets, displacing residents, and wild animals escaping from the state zoo.
