The State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) says a devastating flood has again ravaged communities across Yobe state, News About Nigeria has learnt.
The agency said the flood hit the Fune local government area, killing four people and also injuring forty-three others.
This is contained in the latest flood update released by SEMA on Tuesday.
“1,978 households and an estimated 7,639 individuals from different communities and villages across the 13 wards of Fune LGA were severely affected by the disaster,” SEMA revealed.
“The incidents led to the destruction of about 1,215 houses and injury to about 43 persons with 4 deaths recorded.
“Worse cases were from Jajere, Ngelzarma, Bindigi, Ngelshengele, Baushe, Kolere Kafaje, Tello Dumda, and Kayeri.”
Speaking further, the agency said that Mai Mala Buni, Yobe governor, has ordered immediate support to the affected households while the stock of those whose farmlands are affected is being profiled.
In another development, the News Agency of Nigeria reports that the incident forced many residents of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, to flee their homes after the Alau Dam’s water channels burst.
According to the NAN correspondent who toured the affected areas, key locations, including sections of the Shehu of Borno Palace, Maiduguri Central Market, and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, were underwater.
Other severely affected areas include the Government Reservation Area (GRA), Maiduguri Zoo, College of Nursing, College of Agriculture, and School of Health Technology, among others.
Meanwhile, Usman Tar, Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, urged residents to adhere to designated evacuation routes to ensure their safety.
