Senator Shehu Sani, a former lawmaker representing Kaduna South, has expressed thoughts on Ajuri Ngelale’s decision to step down as President Bola Tinubu’s media adviser.
News About Nigeria reported that Ngelale submitted a memo to President Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Friday, announcing his indefinite leave of absence from his official duties.
Ngelale cited pressing health concerns affecting his immediate family as the primary reason for his decision.
He has also stepped down as the Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action and Chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee on Project Evergreen.
“I am proceeding on an indefinite leave of absence to frontally deal with medical matters presently affecting my immediate, nuclear family,” Ngelale said.
Ngelale said he “looks forward to returning to full-time national service when time, healing, and fate permit”.
“I respectfully ask for some privacy for my family and I during this time,” he added
Reacting to the development, Sani expressed relief for Ngelale, stating that he can finally get some well-deserved rest and regain his strength.
Sani said: “Ajuri can now rest well, sleep well, eat well, switch off his phone and even add some weight.”
On July 31, 2023, Tinubu appointed Ngelale, an ex-aide to former President Muhammadu Buhari, as his special adviser on media and publicity.
On May 19, 2024, the president appointed Ngelale as the special presidential envoy on climate action.
Ngelale, 38, was at different times a broadcast journalist with African Independent Television and Channels Television.
He also worked as a public affairs consultant at the Federal Ministry of Power and later as senior special assistant on public affairs in the office of then Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
