The Zamfara state government has reiterated its commitment to fighting banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities in the state, News About Nigeria reports.
A fake document was said to have circulated online, suggesting that the government had released funds to bandit kingpins for dialogue.
However, the secretary to the state government, Abubakar Nakwada, described these claims as “fake, mischievous, and malicious.”
Nakwada said that the government has consistently maintained a firm stance against negotiating with terrorists.
“The state government has consistently announced its firm stance against negotiating with the bandits and terrorists.
“We still maintain the position that we will not negotiate with terrorists.
Our administration has been unequivocal in its approach to addressing the security challenges facing our state,” Nakwada explained.
He said that past administration had attempted at dialogue had failed and only emboldened the bandits.
He added that he government has instead implemented strategic measures to combat insecurity.
The SSG also noted the government’s efforts to collaborate with security agencies, deploy advanced surveillance systems, and engage with community members to report suspicious activities.
He assured the public that the government would continue taking necessary measures to ensure their safety and security.
In a related development, the State Commissioner for Justice, Abdul’Aziz Sani, affirmed that the government would take legal action against those responsible for forging official documents.
“We are going to track the mischief makers who forged official documents and take serious legal action against them,” he said.
Speaking further, the commissioner for environment and natural resources, Mahmud Dantawasa, denied allegations of state involvement in mining activities.
He added that the government respects and abides by federal policies.
