The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has reiterated that the September 14 deadline for linking National Identification Numbers (NIN) with SIM cards remains unchanged.
News About Nigeria reports that the NIMC said staff at registration centers nationwide and abroad are working efficiently to facilitate enrollment, verification, and data modification.
According to Dr. Kayode Adegoke, Head of Corporate Communications, the commission is ensuring seamless delivery of other services to meet the deadline.
The statement reads, “The commission wishes to reiterate that all its over Ten Thousand NIN enrolment centres across the country and in the diaspora are open for NIN enrolment.”
“NIMC assures that Nigerians and legal residents can visit any center to enroll and obtain their NIN, emphasizing the September 14 deadline.
“The commission also informs applicants that they can modify their NIN data through the NIMC Self-Service portal, subject to terms and conditions.”
Additionally, NIMC provides a website ((link unavailable)) and contact details (nimccustomercare@nimc.gov.ng, 07002255646) for inquiries and issues related to NIN enrollment, data modification, and verification.
The statement continued that ‘the commission reaffirms its commitment to providing excellent identity management services, emphasizing zero tolerance for extortion and unethical practices, and reminding that NIN enrollment is free.”
Adegoke reiterated NIMC’s dedication to delivering world-class services to Nigerians and legal residents.
On August 26, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) spokesperson, Reuben Muoka, expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far, revealing that over 153 million SIM cards have been successfully linked to their NINs.
The commission also warned that buying or selling pre-registered SIMs is a criminal offence punishable by law.
