The National Orientation Agency, Bauchi State office, has warned farmers and residents of areas prone to flooding to be cautious during this period, News About Nigeria reports.
The State Director of NOA Bauchi, Theresa Omaga, made this appeal in a statement on Thursday.
She appealed to farmers and those in riverine areas in Bauchi, to exercise caution due to the incessant rainfall that has ravaged communities and left some farmers helpless.
Omaga noted that it is important to take safety precautions to avoid or minimise further damage.
She also appealed to individuals with essential services or responsibilities in affected areas to ensure they stay updated on recent NiMet predictions to receive timely updates, adding that persistent rain in many areas has resulted in elevated water levels and subsequent flooding.
She said, “We recommend that individuals with essential services or responsibilities in affected areas stay updated on recent NiMet predictions to receive timely updates.”
“The National Orientation Agency is hereby alerting the public, particularly farmers and those in riverine areas in Bauchi, to exercise caution due to the incessant rainfall that has ravaged communities and left some farmers helpless.
“While we sympathise with those facing losses, it is important to take safety precautions to avoid or minimise further damage.
“We advise residents to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel, particularly in flood-prone areas. If you must leave your home, use elevated routes and avoid walking or driving through water-covered streets, as it is difficult to gauge the depth and potential hazards of floodwaters.
“Some places are and will be experiencing drought. Those affected should not panic but continue with their activities, as the rain will still come and may even last until November.”
The agency further pledged to closely monitor the situation and continue to provide updates and guidance as the situation evolves.
