Fourteen persons have been arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps for violating environmental laws.

According to the Corps, the offenders were arrested in the Berger area of the state.

News About Nigeria reports that their arrest was disclosed by the state’s Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, in a statement shared on X on Thursday.

In the statement, the commissioner said that the offenders were caught crossing the highway without using pedestrian bridges.

He also added that some of them were engaging in open defecation, which is against the laws guiding Lagos State.

Wahab further stated that the operation is part of the state government’s efforts to maintain a clean and orderly environment in line with its “zero tolerance” policy.

Sharing a video clip of the arrested offenders, the Commissioner wrote, “Fourteen individuals were arrested at Berger last night for open defecation, open urination, and not using the pedestrian bridge.”

Similarly, the Commissioner revealed yesterday (Wednesday) that the Corps nabbed 16 for similar offences that involved open urination, defecation, and failure to use the pedestrian bridge.

He said, “During monitoring and surveillance of Ojodu Berger, 16 individuals were arrested by @LAGESCOfficial (KAI) at Berger overnight for open urination, open defecation, and not using the pedestrian bridge.”

He further noted that the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps will not relent but will continue to ensure that citizens abide by the rules and regulations guiding the state.

Wahab, therefore, warned that no one would be spared as offenders would be severely punished.
