The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has disclosed that the Nigerian government is working with the European Union (EU) to facilitate the extradition of Simon Ekpa, the self-proclaimed Prime Minister of Biafra.
News About Nigeria reports that this development comes in response to Ekpa’s recent declaration that the official presentation of the Biafra Republic’s map and proclamation will occur on December 2, 2024.
Addressing journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, Major General Edward Buba, DHQ Director of Defence Media Operations, confirmed the government’s intention to collaborate with the EU and the Finnish government to address Ekpa’s actions.
He stated, “The Federal Government will respond appropriately to the Finnish Government through the EU. On the part of the military, troops will sustain operations against IPOB and ESN.”
Simon Ekpa had recently unveiled the map of the so-called “40 United States of Biafra” and announced plans for a formal declaration of Biafra’s independence on December 2, 2024.
He claimed this step was to accelerate the realisation of Biafra’s sovereignty.
In a related development, Ekpa has alleged that there have been multiple assassination attempts on his life.
He made these claims in a statement via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday, suggesting that a suicide bomber had allegedly been deployed from Abuja with the intention of targeting him in Finland.
According to Ekpa, this marks the fifth attempt on his life amid his ongoing campaign for Biafra’s independence.
Ekpa assured his supporters that he was closely monitoring the situation and remained steadfast in his commitment to Biafra’s independence, stating, “Sending suicide bombers to Finland to attack Simon Ekpa is their last option… I remain committed to Biafra Independence. This is your 5th attempt, and you are now sending terrorists to Europe.”
