President Bola Tinubu is set to embark on a journey from Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city, in early September, bound for China.
News About Nigeria gathered that the primary objective of this trip is to participate in the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.
The trip is viewed to be a significant gathering aimed at fostering collaboration between China and African nations.
As disclosed by Ajuri Ngelale, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, the Chinese visit is scheduled to take place during the initial week of September.
Ngelale emphasized that the China engagement is a crucial aspect of the current administration’s endeavors to enhance the quality of life for Nigerian citizens.
During his visit to China, President Tinubu is expected to hold a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, culminating in the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoU).
In addition to meeting with President Xi, President Tinubu will also engage with ten CEOs of prominent Chinese companies operating in various sectors, including oil and gas, aluminum production, agriculture, and satellite technology.
This trip to China comes shortly after President Tinubu’s return from a recent visit to France, which took place just a week prior.
The president’s visit is coming weeks after a Paris court in France ordered the seizure of three jets belonging to the Nigerian government over the dispute involving an arbitration award in favour of Zhongshan Fucheng Industrial Investment Co. Ltd, a Chinese firm.
The court ruled that the Chinese firm should use the three jets at the Paris-Le Bourget and Basel-Mulhouse international airports “as security for its claim of EUR 74,459,221”.
The seized jets are Dassault Falcon 7X, with registration number 5N-FGU, Boeing 737-7N6/BBJ, with registration number 5N-FGT, and Airbus A330-243, with registration number 5N-FGA.
