Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has presented the state’s 2024 Supplementary Budget of N99, 221,503,569.90, to the State House of Assembly, News About Nigeria reports.

The Supplementary budget will cover wages and other projects introduced by Yusuf’s government.

Reading the letter of the Supplementary Budget on the floor of the house during plenary on Tuesday, the speaker, Ismail Falgore, assured the government of a speedy passage of the request.

Giving details on the budget, the speaker revealed that the governor is seeking their approval pursuant to sections 122(A and B) of the 1999 constitution to accelerate and execute priority projects aimed at improving the well-being of the citizens in the state.

According to him, N33,761,174,555.64 from the supplementary budget has been earmarked for personnel costs, N34,492,888,103.44 for overhead costs, and N30,969,440,940.80 for capital expenditure.

Also, the Kano state commissioner for planning and budget, Musa Shanono, who spoke to Newsmen shortly after the presentation of the budget to the house, explained that the new minimum wage was covered in the state’s supplementary budget.

He said, “The supplementary budget will also be used to cover the new minimum wage payment. The initial budget of the states for 2024 is N437, 338, 312, 787. If you merged the original budget with the supplementary budget, passed into law, it will bring the 2024 budget to the tune of N536, 559, 816, 357.84.”

While urging the House to swiftly pass the supplementary budget, Shanono reiterated the Kano state government’s commitment to focusing on infrastructural development, human capital development, and improving the health and educational sector of the state.
