Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has inaugurated the Kaduna State Skills Development Council on Monday to address the skills gap and youth unemployment in the state.
News About Nigeria reports that the council, led by the governor, is the top decision-making body for skills development in the state, responsible for providing strategic direction and leadership for skills acquisition and development.
According to the governor, the council will create a skills development framework, implementation plan, and annual action plans to tackle youth unemployment in the state.
In his inaugural address, Sani stressed the importance of investing in human capital to equip youths with skills to meet the evolving needs of the 21st century and contribute to the state’s economic growth.
The governor announced that the construction of vocational and technology skills acquisition centers in Rigachikun, Samaru Kataf, and Soba is nearing completion and will offer training in various vocational and technical skills.
He also revealed that the renovated Panteka Market in Tudun-Wada will serve as a major hub for skills acquisition and job creation.
Sani expressed determination to address the skills deficits of the state’s citizens, ensuring they have the necessary skills to fill positions in industries and businesses attracted to the state.
He emphasised the long-term impact of the centers on employment generation and economic growth, equipping beneficiaries with essential skills and entrepreneurial opportunities for financial independence.
The Kaduna State Skills Development Council, inaugurated by the governor, will serve as the top decision-making organ for skills development in the state, and he expressed confidence in the council’s ability to discharge its responsibilities with dedication and commitment.
The council comprises representatives from government, education, and technical institutions, chaired by the governor, with members including government officials, education leaders, and technical experts.
The council’s secretary is the Senior Special Assistant (Support Services), and other members include the Executive Secretary, National Board for Technical Education, and the Vice Chancellor, Kaduna State University.
